What this lesson covers

Compression is price squeezing into a narrowing pattern, ascending or descending, and this lesson shows what to look for beyond the shape itself. The detail that matters is the candlesticks inside the formation. As compression builds, the bodies get progressively smaller while the wicks become more prominent, which tells you that participants are pushing in both directions and neither side is closing the period in control. That is a very different signal from a quiet drift into a triangle. The lesson demonstrates the reading on the chart, then covers what usually follows, since compression tends to resolve with momentum rather than gradually. Knowing how to recognise it early gives you time to prepare for the break instead of reacting once the move is already underway.
