What this lesson covers
Backtesting is how you find out whether a strategy works before it costs you anything. This lesson covers manual backtesting on TradingView, which is slower than automated testing but teaches you far more about your own system. It walks through the process: choosing a market and period, replaying price bar by bar, taking every trade the rules allow and recording it honestly, including the ones you would rather forget. It sets out what to track for the results to mean anything, including win rate, average risk to reward, largest drawdown and the length of losing runs. It also covers the mistakes that produce misleading results, such as hindsight bias, sample sizes that are too small and quietly adjusting the rules as you go.
